Start each day with gratitude.  This is a habit that we have to practice (practice makes perfect🤣) There is documentation that when we are grateful our emotions are more positive, we sleep better and it boosts our immune system! HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND-BE GRATEFUL💕

STRETCHING                                 Our bodies are on loan to us-it's our job to take care of them. A simple way that we can do this is stretching every day (easier said than done!) Building muscle and aerobic exercise are not enough-we have to be flexible too.   Regular stretching  can lead to healthy muscles.  This is especially important for those of us with chronic illnesses. Healthy muscles can help those with balance issues to avoid falls or injuries!      Start Today-Don't Get Overwhelmed-Start low then go slow(slow and steady wins the race)!                                                                   ...

TGIF!                                                                      Self Care Self care is a simple concept but so hard to implement.   Pet therapy is a great tool for self care.  Dogs for instance give us unconditional love, service dogs are trained to assist in numerous ways. Emotional support animals do just that-give emotional support and who can't benefit from that.    So if you have any kind of disability do yourself a favor-look into a service animal! There are so many animals in shelters that need a loving home! Adopting a pet not only helps you but also them-                                 ...

September is national self care awareness month. We put so much attention on the needs of others, sometimes there is nothing left for us.  If we don't take time to fill "our tank" we won't have anything to give others.   We all fall into the "yes" trap.    A BIG part of self care is learning to say NO ! Saying no doesn't make us a "bad" person just a healthy person.   Set Boundaries-Easier said than done! No one can say or do things to us without our permission! Take care of yourself no one else will! Have a terrific week!

TGIF! You Have A Chronic Disease!  That is A LOT to hear! Social media is flooded with inspiring sayings, funny memes, and feel good pictures.  The truth is somedays we're not feeling it.  But those messages on social media are reminders! Reminders that our life has changed, but we still have a lot to offer.                                                              HAVE AN AWESOME WEEKEND

Happy Hump Day! I just reviewed this great exerciser.  It is so easy to use and helpful for those who are sedentary  for any reason.  Like I said before movement is vital to a healthy lifestyle(muscle, cones, organs -all depend on it!).  So keep on moving in any way that you can! For this and so many other useful devices got to www.your-medical-store.com

Happy Monday Everyone! We are so lucky that we were diagnosed with a chronic disease 😂 We were also given the choice -I have this disease-now what? Why me? -why am I being punished? or Why me?- what can I share with the world? When I was diagnosed with Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia I made a list of 50 things to do before I turned 50.  One of those things was to "run" a 5k ( because of HSP  I can't run and I had NEVER  been a runner?) Now with the help of my Alinker, I've done 10 5k races! the only one that can change your decisions is you! CHOOSE TO HAVE A GREAT WEEK! #hspandpls #alinker (go to www.thealinker.com for more info on this life changing walking "bike")
We made it to Friday-YAY! "The Elimination diet:  Remove anger, regret, resentment, guilt, blame and worry.  Then watch your health, and life improve"-Charles F. Glassman Anxiety A symptom of our environment, toxic relationships, friends... Once we identify the source of our anxiety, we can heal it.   Medication can help us to deal with our anxiety at first, but if we don't try to find the source the symptom (anxiety) will never go away Have a great weekend-Christine Any advice here should not replace the advice of your health care professional.

Good Morning! Even though it's Tuesday it feels like a Monday? (why do "short" weeks seem like they are longer?) During my journey toward HSP, I was told many things that were "wrong" with me.   The one common thing that was said or implied was that my symptoms were caused by anxiety, I was depressed.   They were all right:  I was anxious and depressed because I knew something was wrong and no was listening! Before my diagnosis several medications were prescribed for me.   Those medications were "bandaids", covering up the problem (or given to me because they simply didn't know why I had these symptoms). Don't get me wrong,  I'm a nurse practitioner I've prescribed countless medications.   Medication is often necessary, but it's important to know WHY we need the medication.   Anxiety and depression are symptoms.  The only way they are "cured" is when we "fix" WHY we are anxious and depressed.   This brings ...

Good Friday Morning! Some days are hard but remind yourself NEVER GIVE UP! As little as 30 minutes of exercise makes a difference. When we do any kind of exercise we increase our levels of dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin.  These can improve our mood, decrease anxiety, improve concentration and improve our sleep (without a pill!).  #hspandpls #alinker Anything stated here does not replace the advice of your doctor!

Happy Thursday! "The secret to success is to start from scratch and keep on scratching"-Anonymous Exercise is VERY important to everyone especially those of us with neuromuscular degenerative diseases. Exercise promotes nerve cell production, it releases endorphins.  Endorphins are our "happy" hormones and play a role in decreasing pain.   Each patient is a puzzle and exercise is a necessary piece to that puzzle We all have heard "Use it or lose it"  Go for a run, walk or roll-what ever you can. Some of us need assistive devices to make exercise easier! Go to www.thealinker.com  or www.your-medical-store.com  for these and any other exercise "helpers" No advice or suggestions seen here should replace your doctors suggestion/prescription. #hspandpls. #alinker
